2-Ton Heat Pump, Ocean Loop, Radiant Floor Heating

2004 Gold Georgie Award Winning Home

exchangenergy installed an ocean loop, geoexchange / geothermal heat pump, radiant floors and controls into this award winning home. Winner of two Gold Georgies for the Best Single family Detached Home and Best Master Suite, it was also a finalist for Best Environmental Consideration and Energy Efficiency; Best Interior Design Custom Residence; and Best Kitchen over $30,000.

18-Ton, Ocean Loop, Heating, Cooling, Year-Round Pool

exchangenergy installed an 18-Ton Ocean loop and geoexchange / geothermal heat pumps to service a 5000 sq. ft. home and a year-round swimming pool. The ocean provides a limitless thermal resource and very high operating efficiencies for the geoexchange heating plants.

The Ocean Loops were constructed in an 11 Ton Module for the pool, and a 7 Ton Module for the house. The forced air heat pumps in the residence provide full heating and air conditioning. The heat gain for the structure accounted for the high solar loadings, which are magnified by reflected light off the water. The hydronic heat pumps for the pool provide extremely low operating costs, contributing to the estimated 6-year payback for the system.

3-Ton Heat Pump, Ocean Loop, Radiant Floor Heating, DHW

Kenyon’s Pad (Architect SOS design), a 3-ton radiant floor/ocean loop geoexchange / geothermal heating system…a dynamic home that costs $25 per month to heat!

Fewer Greenhouse Gases

Reduce Greenhouse Gases With Geoexchange / Geothermal

Reduce Greenhouse Gases With Geoexchange / Geothermal

Every gigajoule of natural gas combusted in a home contributes 0.05 tons of greenhouse gas emissions from the atmosphere.
A Geo-Exchange system in a typical 2500 sq. ft. home removes approximately 5 tons of greenhouse gas emissions from the atmosphere – equivalent to planting an acre of trees each year the system is operated – or taking a midsize car off the road! Take that same home…upgrade the envelope and integrate your domestic hot water into the mix and we’re talking 10 Tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions displaced.

4-Ton Heat Pump, Ocean Loops, Radiant Floor Heating, DHW

Mill Bay Residence

This Mill Bay waterfront residence is over 4,000 sq.ft. exchangenergy installed a six-ton geoexchange / geothermal system with ocean loops, TEKMAR Controls, and UPONOR Radiant Floors.

3-Ton Heat Pump, Horizontal Loop, Radiant Floors

Terra Firma Builders Workshop

This amazing workshop has radiant floors and outdoor reset control  exchangenergy installed a 3-ton heat pump with a horizontal loop for the geoexchange / geothermal heating system.

Increase The Value Of Your Property

Increase YourProperty Value With A Geothermal / Geoexchange System

High efficiency energy systems like GeoExchange add value to your property as soon as they are installed. When you consider both gas and electricity prices are going to get more expensive and that your utilities costs could rise at any given time you realize how unstable our traditional systems are. Imagine that the demand for energy is going to keep growing, and has already grown 25% since the 90’s.  Finally, acknowledge that the production and generation of these traditional energy sources creates pollution and damages our environment. It simply makes sense to deduct that a home with lower operating costs, a passive heating and cooling system and a secure energy source will demonstrate its resale value.
*Real Estate studies in California have shown that a property gains $20,000 in value for every $1,000 in operating cost reductions. This means that in many cases, a geo system is virtually a break-even installation from day 1, and operating cost reductions are icing on the cake. We understand that location, location, location is still the make or break of real-estate but energy independence is high on the list.

*Note: we are currently in the process of collecting Canadian data to support this argument and will post asap.

Will a Geothermal System Work For Domestic Hot Water (DHW)?

DHW is not incorporated in a typical geothermal heating and cooling system. That said, it is possible to use geothermal for DHW, but there are several factors to bear in mind, and special equipment usually required.

exchangenergy has written an in-depth article on our blog about it. Click here to read more about geothermal systems for DHW.

Is It Possible To Install A Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Geothermal System?

It may not seem like rocket science, but without a certified installer, the proper function of a DIY geothermal project, not to mention the warranties on the equipment involved, is at risk.

exchangenergy has written an in-depth article on our blog about it. Click here to read more about DIY geothermal projects.

What Are ‘Slinky Loops’?

Slinky loops are perhaps the most-photographed component of geothermal systems (they are the coiled loops you may have seen in stock photos of geo systems), but at exchangenergy, we disagree with the predominant use of this technology, largely because we take pride in installing maintenance-free, reliable, “right-size” geothermal systems.

exchangenergy has written an in-depth article on our blog about it. Click here to read more about slinky loops and the laws of physics.
